Haley turned her head and softly kissed his cheek. Though she wasn't quite sure what she was doing, she still set to work trying to imagine a day and night on a beach together that he might actually be able to experience.

Haley would find, if she paid attention, that his mind had an odd reception. Parts of the the idea she was trying to send would just bounce off his mind, not having anything to process it. Anything that wasn't visual, though, seemed to take rather easily into his mind.

She seemed to get the feeling that the pictures weren't working--they almost did come back to her distracting her from doing much of anything. Haley found it better to just focus on other things--the feel of warm sun and a slight sea breeze, the sound of waves and gulls, the smell of her favorite perfume, mixed with sunscreen. Feelings too--relaxation, laughter. After a while she changed up the scenery--quieter waves and cool night air, the smell of a crackling campfire, ...and the feelings that she at least felt when they made out.

Cal didn't open his eyes, didn't even move that much, so it might have come as something of a surprise when he spoke. "...thas nice..." The words, though, were more than a little slurred, more than just sleep-muffled, even. Shit...

Haley didn't seem to notice anything wrong so she gave him a few more thoughts that were...slightly risqué. She smiled, satisfied, and snuggled up against the sleeping boy, watching the movie.

Cal's lips curled up at the edge... one edge, at least. "Bad girl," he muttered, sounding a little amused through the thick voice.

It'd probably take a little bit before she'd start getting the idea that at this point, he was only pretending to sleep.

You're supposed to be sleeping, Mister she thought to him.

"Sleep... wase of tiiime..."

Haley smirked, and started thinking extremely sleepy thoughts, hoping it might work to get him to actually sleep.

She really needed to find out how to put people to sleep like she'd read about in her power control notes...

It was difficult to tell if her efforts would make any headway, partly because it was difficult to tell which parts of his brain and body functions were natural and which one were artificially regulated. If she actually started pushing, she'd find alarmingly little actually under his control, even though he was evidently awake at the moment. She would, however, find that he was completely alert, contrary to how his slurred speech made it sound.

Trying to help you sleep...probably shouldn't...don't want to hurt you...but you need to sleep...

Haley stopped trying to do anything realizing she was way out of her league.

If... you want me to, I will... just... not here.

I want you to so you are safe. I just wish I could sleep with yo...I mean....uh...well...you know what I mean...

I know what you mean, he confirmed. He tried to move his arm to wrap it over her, and she'd get the oddest sense of psychic gibberish in his head rather than the usual smooth mental signals coming from an active person, followed by a thought of pure frustration.

Are....are you okay?

Can't move. Systems started running maintenence when I dozed off.

[Haley Crusek]

I'll stay with you...try to sleep?

[Calvin Strong]

I... okay, I'll try, he thought. You... don't have to stay. There was a strong undercurrent of humiliation to his thoughts as he thought them.

[Haley Crusek]

Try to. I'll stay. I like spending time with you, and this is probably the closest I'll get to falling asleep with you for quite a while.

[Calvin Strong]

...Okay.

God, I hate this.

It took him a few moments to realize that yes he was laying on the couch with someone who regularly heard his thoughts even when she wasn't trying to hear them, so he probably ought to elaborate. Every time I go to sleep... it's like this. Can't move, can't do anything, just... stuck a useless cripple again.

Most people don't move around or carry on conversations while asleep. You're not a cripple, you're sleeping. You just need to let your brain actually rest too, instead of thinking about it. If you like... try and do stuff and your body is just resting you'll like... go crazy.

Have you ever been asleep and woke up not being able to move? It's scary... but it only lasts for a few minutes. This is every time, and for hours if I couldn't sleep long enough. It's just like... The thought cut off there.

Haley didn't pry further as she thought maybe he would actually sleep. But she listened closely and huge him close.

[Calvin Strong]

Cal, frustrated, just lay there. He was feeling more than a little pathetic... but knew better than to actually put thoughts to it. Not that the idea wouldn't get across anyway.

[Haley Crusek]

Haley said nothing and thought little, simply being there with Cal and snuggling with him under the blankets, not wanting to further distract him from maybe actually sleeping.

Call, for his part, didn't move. At all. For quite a while. If Haley stayed, though, for a bit over an hour, she'd finally feel him shift, rolling toward her and wrapping an arm over her. His disconnected, sleeping thoughts were basically along the lines that she felt nice.

Haley smiled and tried very hard to make sure she didn't disturb him. She didn't feel too bad about letting her mind wander a bit and sharing, though.
