Issue 1 Downtime

Sidney is wandering around the gardens, looking for nooks and crannies and getting an idea of what's where.

She would find Haley meditating under a tree, bundled in a University of Texas hoodie, floating two feet off the ground.

Sidney walks over, not particularly sneaking up on her but not being particularly loud either. She just watches her curiously for a while as Haley floats.

"Hey, Sidney," Haley said casually, her eyes closed.

She was silent for a second as her face scrunched up in confusion. "Wait, who the hell is..."

Her eyes fluttered open. "Uh...hey."

"Whoa, trippy."

"Sorry. I'm Haley. New I take it?"

"Yeah. So you were doing what exactly?"

"Meditating. It's supposed to help with m--“

Haley realized at this point that she was no longer on the ground, and floated back down.

"My control," she smirked.

"And you read my name in the clouds?" she smirks.

"Yep. Clouds. Read em like a book," she smirked.

"Anyway, call me Sid."

"Nice to meetcha, Sid. So what's your thing?"

"Last person here to ask me that broke my collarbone. That was... about half an hour ago." she says, shrugging her backpack further up her shoulder again.

"So you heal fast. That's handy around here. I break things with my brain and a really good at guessing people's names," she smirked.

"I swear, if you ask me to heal other peoples' crap for them too..."

"...huh? I meant that weird shit happens here all the time and it would be handy to heal fast if you got hurt."

"Oh, good. That goth chick I ran into earlier gave me some assholes broken bones to heal off so she could spare some shitty rats."

"Holy shit. Who the fuck does that? What a bitch."

"I know right? Freaking psycho. Anyway, you know any cool places around here to hang out?"

"I hang out in the center of the maze if I want hardly any one to find me. Other than that...not really."

"Well that's lame. Maze sounds promising though...""

"If you can make it to the center, it's pretty sweet. Not many people make it there...I just cheat"

"Damn. Well, there's probably plenty of dead ends and shit in there right?"

"Oh, tons. You want an overhead view?"

"Hell yeah!"

"Want me to carry you, or just a picture?"

"Pass on a chance to fly? Haul my ass up there, girly!" she grins.

"Alright," she grinned. "Gimme a piggyback ride, it'll be easier to lift us both that way. I'm pretty tiny."

"Sure thing." she says and ties her backpack around her waist so Haley has room on her back.

Haley climbed up onto Sid's back and made sure she had a secure grip around Sid's trunk with her legs before taking a deep breath to focus and exhaling slowly. Together, the slowly lifted up off the ground, hovering just a foot or two while Haley got a feel for their combined weight and the balance of everything.

"Okay. Don't ask to go fast or do barrel rolls and shit, cuz I'm not that cool yet, but the view is still pretty fucking cool."

Haley pushed them further off the ground and they lazily floated over the grounds and above the nearby hedge maze.

"Gotcha. More blimp than plane." she grins as they float up into the air.


"Okay this might be lacking in bang but it's still pretty fucking rad."

"I'll assume blimp wasn't a comment on my weight, and not drop you from 100 feet," she teased with a chuckle.

"It is neat up here though. I'm meditating and shit to get so it's kinda second nature and I can do more stuff while flying," she said as the started a gradual decent into the center of the maze.

Sidney does her best to try and memorize at least one path to a dead-end somewhere in the maze though she'd probably need pen and paper.

"Hah, nah, but you should find a better threat." she laughs. "This is a pretty sweet spot though. Gonna have to make a map or something."

"I have a picture on my phone. You have a number I can send it to? Otherwise ill send it to your school email."

"Sweet!" she says, telling Haley her number as she sets down her backpack and starts rifling through it.

Haley whipped out her phone and sent the picture with typing speed that bordered on superhuman.

"Thanks!" she says, ignoring the buzzing phone in her backpack and pulling out a small bag full of what probably isn't oregano (unless Haley is really naive) along with a bag of tobacco.

"We might want to find a dead end that isn't here if that's what I think it is. There is one teacher who knows the maze pretty well," she smirked. "And are you willing to share?"

"Sure thing. And the teachers just wander in here? That costs this place major points..."

"Just one, really. And while I'm pretty cool with him, and hell, he might join us for as crazy as he is, we should probably pick a dead end a bit towards the far side of the maze from the school if we're busting that out."
