Orientation - Refreshing Refreshments

[Alex Carpenter]

"Well I don't know about... wait, why do you say that?"

[Roland Sackville]

"Thrilling," he deadpanned.

"I read a few books too, Prof, don't worry," she grinned.

"Not TOO long ones, though, I'm sure," he said, winking at her.

[Victor Freud]

"Haha, eww. I'm Jennifer."

"Oh god, I'm sorry, that is so rude of me," Maya says. "I'm Maya. It's good to meet you."

Victor shrugged. "Hey, I live on a farm. If I was gonna get sick from a pop can I'd've been dead years ago. Either way, it's nice to meet ya both."

[Narrator]

"I haven't had to drag you out of the jungle yet."

[Jennifer Newgate]

"You never know. I could have Ebola or something." she nods.

[Alex Carpenter]

"Oh. Well... yeah, I guess so," he allowed. Since... she didn't invite me, I win, I guess?

[Maya Mills]

"Are you guys new too?" Maya asks.

[Victor Freud]

"I guess I like to live dangerously." Victor knew how cheesy that sounded, and it was completely and utterly intentional.

"Yeah, just arrived last night. And I have no idea what's goin' on."

[Jennifer Newgate]

She chuckles at Vic.

"Yeah. My parents thought I shouldn't risk getting put on some kinda murder-list, so they send me here."

[Blaine Slinger]

Blaine wandered over.

"Dull party, yeah?"

[Maya Mills]

Maya laughs at Victor's cheesiness, "'I Have No Idea What's Going On' is pretty much the title of my autobiography."

"Hello," Maya greets Blaine, "It's not that bad."

[Paul Valmont]

"Yeah, kinda," Paul agreed as he wandered in from the other direction. New Kids, Unite!

[Narrator]

"I'm sure you'll help talk her out of her crazier ideas, eh?"

[Victor Freud]

She chuckles at Vic.

"Yeah. My parents thought I shouldn't risk getting put on some kinda murder-list, so they send me here."

"Aww geeze, sorry you had it that bad." Victor had been pretty lucky, and if students were going to talk about how their lives were at risk he didn't feel like mentioning that he'd gotten there because his sister was a student and had saved the world a few times or something. That'd just be bragging. Instead he just smiled at Maya's comment before nodding to the two newcomers.

[Veronica Glarette]

After listening to the piano piece for a while, she turns and notices that the number of people there has increased. It made her a little nervous, but she wasn't too worried about it. Everyone was forming their cliques. It was normal, and that actually put her more at ease. Moving over to the refreshment table, she takes up a bottle of water quietly.

[Graham Jaeger]

"Yeah. I'm new too...ish. First full year anyway," Graham said.

[Ryan Gabriel]

"And when you learn how to use your account for awesome purposes, I might start retweeting you, too," Ryan added, smirking down at Haley. Wait, is that... "If you're that serious about helping, come talk to me later... I have to go see someone." Well well well... guess Paris worked out for her as well as I hoped... he thought as he walked toward the refreshment table.

[Veronica Glarette]

She fumbles a bit with the cap of the water bottle, cursing a bit under her breath with a few colorful French terms. Who was she kidding? She was nervous as all Hell. Normal tenancies or not, this was a bit of an overload for her.

[Ryan Gabriel]

Poor thing. I could make sure she sees me coming, b- oh screw it. I'm not on business anymore, now I can have fun. Ryan waited until he was a few steps behind her. "Well, look who came to join the party," he said with a grin. I hope she doesn't spill her drink...

[Alex Carpenter]

"I... well, she doesn't usually have crazy ideas," Alex said, figuring it was a good moment to stick up for her. "I mean, I guess that time, but that was just once!"

[Haley Crusek]

"Challenge accepted," she grinned. oh my god. I need to get him to notice me online.

Haley sat up finally and regarded Roland from behind her sunglasses, a warm smile on your face.

"How was your summer, prof?"

[Brigid Plunder]

Brigid nods vigorously.

[Victor Freud]

She fumbles a bit with the cap of the water bottle, cursing a bit under her breath with a few colorful French terms. Who was she kidding? She was nervous as all Hell. Normal tenancies or not, this was a bit of an overload for her.

"Yeah, me too. I mean, I was to the school in New York for a bit, but this is my first time here. I... one second." Victor set his soda can down on the table and stepped backward from the group. A few French words had caught his attention, and now he was approaching Veronica.

<Pardon me miss. May I?> The words were pronounced poorly, and with a non-francophone accent, but they were at least somewhat comprehensible. From a sentence it was obvious the young man was not a native French speaker, which probably explained the formality of his words.

[Veronica Glarette]

She jumps just a tiny bit, but smiles and hopes it wasn't noticed. Waving a bit to Ryan, she looks around. "Party? I wouldn't say zis is any party I am used to. Less beer and dancing, non?" A bit of a smirk. "But zere is good music." She motions to Will playing the piano, then turns back to Ryan. "How haf you been?"

Upon hearing Victor speak, she smiles wide. It unknown if it's a smile because she appreciates him speaking her native tongue, or if she was smiling because of how formal it sounded. Regardless, she hands over her water bottle. It's true, those things can seriously be hard to open.
<Thank you, sir.> Her own words are fluently spoke. Even when she speaks English, her words have a heavy accent to them.

"Well, we've got people too young for beer. That comes later after their curfew," Ryan joked, then turned to get a drink so as not to interrupt.

Victor hadn't intended to interrupt the conversation, but it was one of those moments where the words were out of his mouth before he knew what was happening. He took the handkerchief out of his pocket again and used it to get a good grip on the bottle top, managing to get the thing open without too much of a fuss.

<They get sweaty in the sunlight.> Was all he could think to say as he handed the bottle back to her, as if he felt the need to explain it. <I will let you talk to your friend, we are just speaking there if you want to join.> Attempts at longer sentences really brought out his shakiness around the language, but pigeon French was better than no French at all.

[Veronica Glarette]

Taking the bottle back, she smiles softly at Victor in thanks. "<I will likely do that, if it's not out of line. I would not wish to interrupt. Thank you again.>" She really had no idea what to say to him, the words kind of just falling from her own mouth. What was she thinking? This was an orientation. It was normal for people to gather and get to know one another. Smooth again, Veronica. Really smooth. Opening the bottle of water completely now, she takes a sip. Maybe that will keep her from saying anything else silly. Huh. There are quite a number of younger kids here.

With more people starting to gather, Maya goes to find someplace to sit down.

She's definitely not retreating. No, sir. Her legs are just tired from all the standing around holding unopened soda cans.

She taps the top of her soda can.

Fortunately, Ryan was all about ignoring social missteps today. "I was wondering if you'd end up here," he said. "I mean, didn't want to suggest it then, that would've seemed a little self-serving, but it's good to see you here," he said.

With more people starting to gather, Maya goes to find someplace to sit down.

She's definitely not retreating. No, sir. Her legs are just tired from all the standing around holding unopened soda cans.

She taps the top of her soda can.

Fortunately, Ryan was all about ignoring social missteps today. "I was wondering if you'd end up here," he said. "I mean, didn't want to suggest it then, that would've seemed a little self-serving, but it's good to see you here," he said.

"Zis was zere first recommendation for continuing sings. I also mentioned your name to zem..." She states, letting the statement hang.

[Ryan Gabriel]

"Oh? Did they have any choice words to say about me?" Ryan asked, chuckling a little.

[Will Stanton]

Will switched to some upbeat swing music on the piano, as the orientation continued.

[Haley Crusek]

"You did? Well it doesn't look like you posted anything. Are they sitting in your draft folder or did you not write like I told you too?"

[Maya Mills]

Graham could sympathize with being shy around crowds, and broke off from the herd to join her.

"You hate crowds too, huh?"

"Yeah, I'm not good with...people. You know, in general. So, crowds....crowds are tough," Maya says.

[Graham Jaeger]

"Same here," he nodded, "Mostly a power issue though."

And a cabin in the woods issue.

[Veronica Glarette]

"Oh? Did they have any choice words to say about me?" Ryan asked, chuckling a little.

"Zey did not. Zey mentioned nosing more zen you being an instructor. I just thought it would be fun to see 'ow you would react." She was honest. To her, it was a way to ease things up a bit, make things a bit more light in humor. The switch of the music seemed to help her with that a bit. A smile. Okay, maybe this isn't so bad. Just relax and try to have fun.

[Jennifer Newgate]

With everyone else around her either retreating or chatting up other girls Jennifer takes a sip of her Coke and turns around to Paul.

"Hey."

[Maya Mills]

"Same here," he nodded, "Mostly a power issue though."

And a cabin in the woods issue.

"Mine's just brain issues," Maya says, waving her hand dismissively. "Whatever. It's fine."

"What are your powers anyway?"
