Issue 1 Downtime

Nailah is in her office, waiting for Haley and Brigid to show up after having asked them to do so after class.

Haley walked in sullenly, clearly somewhat nervous.

"Hi Professor..."

Haley sat down uncomfortably on one of the chairs in front of Nailah's desk.

"Relax, Haley." she smiles. "Orange?"

"Uh...sure," she said forcing a smile.

She slashes an orange once with a claw to make it easier to peel and hands it to Haley.

"It'll be fine. No need to be nervous."

Haley nodded and smiled weakly, accepting the orange while slouching in her chair, peeling it, tossing the skin in a garbage pail, and pulling off a section and eating it.

"....this is a really, really good orange," she said, surprised.

"They are. I have a sneaking suspicion they might be from Spain..." she smiles faintly. For some reason she seems very glad about that hunch.

"Most oranges around here probably come from there. It's just..." For a moment she looks like she's just going to trail off but then she decides not to leave that sentence hanging. "A friend of mine who I let down once is from Spain and I'd like to think these are from her, even though they're probably not."

"Oh..." she said, chewing thoughtfully. "Well...I hope they are, then" she flashed a weak smile.

She looked exhausted, with dark circles under her eyes.

Haley meekly watched her roommate come in as she finished her orange.

She took a seat with an awkward glance to Haley.

"You get mad at me for waking you up all the time because I have bad dreams, or my TP is being stupid, and you and your friends call me a psycho because I have power accidents when I get upset. And...I'm just tired. I hardly spend any time in our room because I'm trying to avoid you. And I'm tired of it. So i like...want to try and fix this,"

"My head hurts like hell, like 90% of the time, and even when it doesn't do you know how hard it is to hear what people around you think? To worry about broadcasting your thoughts to the whole room? To wonder if just looking at something is going to make it start flying around the room?"

"Look, that...got out of hand....and I'll deal with it, with her and the teachers, not you..."

"But she dislikes me and picks on me just as much as you do. Probably because you do. And I think she's the one that had Regan paint that picture."

You both have friends you want to stand up for and that's fine but when it becomes a back and forth like this then it escalates like it has the last few days. Haley, you're being a little paranoid and Brigid you're rather vindictive. We're here so you two can talk, not make a case for why something you did was or was not justified."
