Name: Domanic Taylor
Mutant Name: Lumis
Age: 34, but appears younger
Position: Lumis, as he prefers to be called, is the current leader of the Student X-Team program. He is also a faculty member, teaching classes on Power Control, Energy Projection, Leadership, and Business. Due to his busy schedule with the teams, and with his various corporations, Lumis doesn't carry a heavy class load, and doesn't offer classes in all of his areas of expertise each semester.
Power: Lumis is an Elemental, of Sunlight. His body absorbs all electromagnetic radiation, making him impervious to energy attacks that don't have a kinetic component. He can change his level of absorbtion, which is how he changes his appearance, choosing to reflect more or less light, and different bands of it. He has the ability to project light as well in nearly any way his imagination can conceive, from deadly x-ray lasers to beautiful holographic displays. His power output for weaponized energy projection has an extremely high top-end, especially when he has recently absorbed a lot of power. Lumis has done battle with Sentinels and lived to tell the tale. His base power level is just below what people often think of as 'omega' level, but with proper charging up he can stand toe to toe with the strongest mutants Earth has produced.
Lumis has a secondary mutation, and that is the ability to transform his body. He can become nearly massless, a light-absorbing form that he calls 'shadow'. Shadow is an almost entirely psychic entity, and has it's own distinct psyche and personality from Lumis. If this is an unavoidable consiquence of the secondary mutation, or if it's a case of multiple personality disorder arising from the stress of the transformation is unknown. Lumis has refused all attempts for counseling or telepathic treatment in the past. Shadow is a vicious, cruel, and grasping entity, in stark contrast to Lumis's own community-minded, generous personality. The two personalities are naturally at odds, and despite Lumis's best efforts, he cannot always control his psychic alter-ego.
Description: Lumis has the features of a Caucasian man, but has Stygian black skin, so dark it appears to be more of a glossy plastic than skin. Sometimes, motes of light seem to drift up under the surface of his skin. His hair is pure white, and whispy, and his eyes glow with a golden light. He is always dressed in the latest fashions, with a seemingly inexhaustible wardrobe of beautiful suits and designer clothes.
Lumis is a friendly person, greeting people with a smile more often than not, always gregarious but attentive in conversation. He has a strong, almost forceful personality, but he tries not to overwhelm people with it. He's known by his friends and associates to be generous to a fault, but with an intense temper when those he cares about are threatened, or mutants are maligned.
Background: In his early teens, Lumis had the experience that many teens have upon manifesting an obvious and disfiguring mutation. He found that he was no longer very welcome at home with his parents. Though it might have been possible to heal the rift that his mutation drove between his family and himself, Lumis, then just called Domanic, ran away from home. He spent a year or more in typical situations for a teenage runaway, none of them good. At the age of 16, he was rescued by Charles Xavier, and brought to the Xavier Institute.
He excelled as a student, especially in the area of power control, but quickly became disillusioned with the way that Xavier chose to interact with non-mutants. Finding himself more enamored of Magneto's politics, he began to wreck havoc in the local New York political scene. Lumis was not very subtle as a young man, and would almost certainly have been caught by Xavier or the human authorities in short order, but before that could happen, he was catapulted into the Crossroads alternate dimension, along with most of the school.
Upon his return from Crossroads, Lumis had acquired a bad reputation among many of the students, and he fled to Hong Kong, where his activities are not a matter of public record, but the general sense is that his dealings there were very shady. More than 10 years later, he returned to the Xavier Institute to pursue an offer of a teaching position under the new headmaster, Kathryn Pryde.
Lumis taught at the Xaviers Institute for a little over a year, disappearing at long intervals to take care of the web of business interests and associates he had built up over the preceding decade. When the Xavier's London Campus was announced, Lumis offered to help with the project, eventually contributing large sums of money time spent politically wrangling various functionaries.
Politically, Lumis is something of a hawk, he has public and private ties to a number of anti-human organizations in the global mutant community. He has never been conclusively linked to any attacks on humans, in fact, he has prevented such on a few occasions. Still, it would be hard to call him an advocate of peaceful mutant and human relations. Lumis's usual position is that Mutants and Humans should remain separate.
Known Associates: Lumis has a son named Primus, the mother is Binary, though the two of them are not married. Primus is now almost four years old. He is known to be close with Samantha MacManus, and Michael Asters. He has few other friends, though little is known about his associates left in Hong Kong, just that he maintains ties to a 'Jade Youth Society' there.
