The College Years - Gone Dancing

The feeling of being watched only seemed to intensify, perhaps made all the more uneasy by the fact that she couldn't see any signs of where it was coming from in the forest. At the same time, the closer she got to the forest the more she could feel a restlessness of sorts. It seemed ready to welcome her, as one of its own creatures.

And so she slowly makes her way into the forest though she's careful and keeps glancing around despite the fact that she more and more feels like it's the forest itself that's keeping an eye on her somehow.

With her first step past the treeline, something felt different. Her claws seemed to dig deeper into the soil, and a tension and energy seeped into her limbs.

And soon she wasn't nervously wandering through the forest in search of what was watching her. Her movements smoother, filled with another kind of tension as she prowls the woods. She almost has to admit that she's on the hunt for something.

And with that acceptance seemed to come more. Her hair was wilder, her pelt was spreading along her. She loomed larger in the forest as she ventured deeper, her fingers tipped with wicked claws.

On the wind through the trees, there was an odd scent. Dream logic being what it was, that too seemed familiar.

And so she knew what she was hunting. Well, according to the logic inside the dream anyway. With a flap of her wings and a well-timed jump she swings herself into the branches as she follows the scent.

It wasn't far, or didn't seem like it was. The edge of a clearing. A familiar redhead sitting on the ground with her back to Nailah. She seemed... smaller than the sphinx remembered?

She tilts her head for a moment, confused. Then again, this has to be her. Quietly spreading her wings she pushes herself out of the tree she's in and glides across the clearing, aiming to tackle the red-head to the ground with a hug.

The redhead indeed went down in a heap of mad laughter, squirming to turn herself to face Nailah. Her angular, feral features were giddy as she broke into a sharp-toothed grin. She was quite human-sized, as her proportion to the trees of the clearing would attest. Nailah simply... wasn't, anymore.

"Well now, look at you," she said as she petted the fur on the sphinx's shoulder. "This forest agrees with you."

That realization broke at least part of the dream logic in that she vaguely remembers that she's not supposed to be this big.

"You're so small..." she says, carefully patting 'Sam's' hair.

"Same size I usually am," she chuckled. "Still, the other beasties know to mind me. Why are you so bold?"

"Mmm, and such a good hunter you turned out to be. Scented the queen of the beasties on the wind..."

Badb closed her eyes and grew in stature, a grey wolfish pelt sprouting on her. When she opened them again they were level with Nailah's, the whites gone dark, and gimlet rings of green marking her irises.

"...and here you've caught her. Do you know what to do with me, though?"

She knew what she wanted to do. Or the part of her that the forest had dragged closer to the surface anyway. And really, it was a dream, so what's the harm, right?

"I can think of a few things..." she grins.

That seemed to be the last bit of motivation she needed. She leans down to kiss Badb while keeping her shoulders pinned to the ground.

Badb for her part was only too happy to return it in her savage way, matching fang to fang. At some point it tasted like blood was drawn, and whether it was hers or the sphinx's, the mistress of the forest didn't seem to care.

A small part in the back of Nailah's head objects but it's soon forgotten as the two clash and roll around the clearing in their passion.

...and that was about when Sam awoke with a start to realize she'd rolled out of the bed.

She blinked in confusion, the whites of her eyes gone, her irises livid rings of green amongst black. A grey pelt covered most of her skin.

"...what the?"

Nailah was a bit slower to wake, head still awash with the dream. It cleared pretty damn fast when she sees Sam and the state she's in though.

"W-was that..."

"It was..." She shook her head, trying to clear her mind. The unnatural features started to recede back into her.

"It was a dream. Just... just a dream."

Nailah keeps lieing awake for a couple minutes, trying to wrap her head around what she had seen (and more importantly, how she had acted) in Sam's head but she's too tired and comfy to really get anywhere and soon she falls asleep as well.

It was hard to tell when it had happened, but by the time daylight started creeping into the room it became evident that Samantha was clinging to Nailah, sound asleep.

After such a long and busy night it takes more than just sunlight to wake Nailah. But when she eventually does and finds Sam's arms wrapped around her she smiles brightly, shifting a little to wrap a wing around her.

Samantha's skin seemed to ripple slightly, almost like a shiver. She didn't wake yet, though.

Is she in the forest again? Or are there different places for the other two? she wonders as she gently brushes a couple of stay hairs out of Sam's face.

As Nailah's thoughts turned to the forest, the same grey fur started to sprout on Sam. However, as she recalled Macha and Nemain, strands of white and black started to appear in Sam's hair. They seemed to struggle against each other, the pelt progressing and receding, her hair's composition marching between the three colors.

Is she picking up on my thoughts? Maybe I can make her struggle less. So the black-haired one said Nemain was the one opposed to the wild one so that'd make for less... intense dreams, right? So white hair then...
