Issue 1 Downtime

Bobby was sitting at one of the mess hall tables, poking tentatively at what appeared to be a rainbows worth of colorful hexagonal shaped foodstuffs.

"Ugh.." he muttered. "At least they have Passable forks.."

"Better than the Shi'ar chow at least," Kevin pointed out as he sat across from Bobby.

"Yeh, I'm never looking at birdseed the same way again, ever."

bobby tentatively sliced into one of the hexagonal shapes with the fork, but instead of slicing in half, it reformed into two identical, but smaller, hexagonal shapes.

"Okay... that was cool," he commented, reproducing the effect on his own food. "It's like a magic honeycomb!"

"Dandy," Bobby replied, scooping one of the small shapes up, and into his mouth.

"Ugh, bitter licorice.."

"I keep hoping I'll work out how to turn my taste buds off." Rachel said, sitting down near Bobby.

"I think they're screwing with you guys," Cal said as he headed over to join them. His cybernetics still weren't in the best shape, prone to sparking here and there, but the main point had been to get his computer functions working first, working on other systems second. "Just need to know what to ask for." He seemed to have some kind of stew that... well, didn't smell bad.

bobby held his nose and downed a bright yellow hexagon, and grimaced.

Bobby paused, looking at his selection. He then pushed the entire tray off the table.

Cal smirked, pushing his tray across the table to Bobby. "Here, try that."

Bobby pushed it back.

"Nah, I'm done with putting unknown things into my mouth. I'll try again later." he said, with a frustrated look.

"Thanks for the help, Cal." Rachel said, rolling her eyes a little "Its nice that you can be there for the rest of the poor people who can't talk to the freaking computers on this ship."

Cal was quiet for a minute. Then he reached for the tray and stood up. "Right. Sorry. I'll head back to the computer core where I belong."

Cal closed his eyes for a minute. "Top speed that they're supposed to be able to go solo, using warpgates that are-" he made an irritated face. "No, they wouldn't know yet," he said, shaking his head, stabbing his spoon into the stew in irritation. He made a face. "Hand me that purple one," he added, pointing to the rainbow of hexagons Bobby had shoved away.

bobby picked it up, handing it to Cal.

"Do you guys know much about the Nova Corps?" he asked, glancing about at a couple of the aliens seated at different tables.

Cal remained uncomfortably silent as he broke the seasoning into a lot of tiny little hexes that he mixed into the stew. Evidently, this helped, as he kept eating.

"Just that they're some kind of space cops." Rachel said "I'm sure Tin Man here can tell you their favorite foods and underwear sizes."

"You know," Cal mused, not looking up from his stew, "It'll be good to get back to Earth. You're even more of a bitch in closed quarters than I remembered."

bobby chuckled a little.

"Maybe they can fix the parking tickets I got in London, then?"

giving up his attempt to stave off hunger, he left briefly, returning with a bowl of the same slop Cal had.

"I know they had a Nova on earth for a while. I think my dad teamed up with him a couple times."

As Rachel turned her attention to Bobby, Cal picked up his tray and headed out of the room.

"He didn't really know him at all. he was based in New York, and had pretty vanilla powers- strength, speed, flight, energy blasts. No complaints."

Val brushed past Cal as he left in a huff, and took his seat once she made it to the table, carrying a plate with steamed ~~fish~~ some kind of ichthyoid creature.

"Where'd Cal go?" he asked as he returned.
