DT2 - This was supposed to be simple

Postby Narrator » Tue Oct 20, 2009 8:13 pm

For the first week of their work, the kids really had a boring, if strenuous, workload. The asteroids were wrestled in, they were mined, and the process was repeated.

On the ninth day they were there, though, an alarm sounded. From their rooms in the dormitory section, they could hear a lot of panicked shouting.

The action, judging from how people were hurrying away from it, was in the direction of either the mining facility or the docking bay. The babble of yelling seemed to be people saying that they needed to do something, and others shouting back that there wasn't anything they could do.

"In the control room and the mining bay, they've gone crazy!" the worker she stopped said, frantically, pointing down the hall before pulling away and hurrying off in the opposite direction.

Rick stumbled out of his room, having been napping until a few moments before. Still a bit bleary-eyed, he headed over to his teammates.

"What's happening? Anyone know?"

Kathrin comes sailing around the axis of the rotating ring, a regular sleep cycle still somewhat eluding her and she sets down next to the others. "Lots of yelling going on, but why..." she shrugs. "Can't be good though."

Rachel would be able to sense a lot of panic for a ways down the facility, and then, closer to the mining bay, no matter what mind she touched, it was just blank, as if the thoughts weren't being formed within the minds of the people she was touching.

As the team hurried down the hall, they quickly stopped running into any base personnel fleeing the area. As soon as they passed the hangar, though, they could see personnel moving somewhat stiffly, between the mining bay and the main control room. The ones moving back toward the mining bay were holding components from the control room in their hands. So far, nothing seemed to pay any attention to the X-Men as they approached.

Rachel would find that her power still affected people as normal, but that she couldn't discover the source of the control. Whatever it was, it was blanketing a wide area, including the area they were in, although there was no pressure on their minds.

Unfortunately, even as Madrox suggested moving toward the mining bay, they could see that the posessed crew was very efficiently taking apart the control room, which controlled things like life support, the station's reorientation, power regulation... fairly vital things that should probably remain functioning. Even worse, a couple posessed workers began moving toward the hangar, where the only means of returning home currently lay.

"Time for you to take a nap." Rachel said, making the needed adjustments, so that everyone in the control room would fall asleep. She hoped. "I've got the control room." she said to Madrox "You and Kat go check out the mining bay."

"On it!," Rick told Madrox. He ran to interpose himself between the two workers heading toward the hangar. As soon as he stopped, he burst into a spin, and the workers would have a tornado between them and the spacecraft in the hangar.

The two that Rick caught in the tornado were buffetted around, slamming into the walls and seeming dazed.

Rachel's few, on the other hand, went down when commanded. Unfortunately, each time she turned her attention to another, the one she'd just put to sleep woke up. Now, the threat established, when they woke up they activated their plasma cutters, advancing on her.
