A Chopper above the North Sea

A Chopper above the North Sea

Postby Narrator » Tue Oct 30, 2012 4:41 pm

One of the X-Team's stealth choppers was flying steadily above the North Sea, headed for the coordinates Maddrox had found in the secret message, hopefully, to where Will was kept.

Sara is sitting in one of the seats furthest away from any window, nervously tapping her foot for a multitude of reasons.

Cold and desolate could describe it, until in the distance, an old sea fort appeared on the horizon.

Stephanie took a break from pouring over a mission dossier on a tablet and stared out the window at the base they were rapidly approaching.

Elena leaned back in her seat and at Madrox's pronouncement, tugged at her gloves for the fifteenth time.

The platform seemed rather abandoned, at the moment at least. Was this the right place after all?

"Talos!" the pilot shouted. "Should we land?"

"These are the coordinates," he said, nodding as he got up and went to the door. "I'll take flight and cover you."

At that, the android opened the helicopter door and jumped out before engaging his thrusters.

The copter set down ontop of the platform. Still, no sign of a welcoming party or anything of that nature. Were they too late?

There was a door -- locked, of course -- into the interior of the structure.

Sara jumps out of the chopper as soon as it lands, shifting mid-jump.

"Think they already left?" she says, trying not to sound too worried.

"You were expecting obvious guards patrolling? Causes problems with keeping it a secret facility," Elena conjectured, jumping out. Her kinetic armor shimmered into existence and she started the mental countdown of how long she could keep it up.

No explosives this time, for once.

It was quiet, with only the hum of what sounded like a generator, and the lapping of waves on the edge of the concrete structure.

*bwong-wong-wong-wong*

The door didn't..didn't really budge. It seemed it was a HELL of a lot sturdier than the old rusted thing looked.

"Get clear," Madrox said, aiming his laser hand as he calibrated it to a high heat. Once his shot was clear, he would fire a sustained beam to melt it off its hinges.

That was working....slower than Maddie would have thought, based on the power of his laser and, y'know, normal strength of metal doors.

But, more importantly, it was working, and, eventually, the door would be weakened enough to break through.

That was enough to knock the door off it's hinges, which fell down and rattled below.

...Far below. Like, below the waterline, below.

Also far below the waterline, a siren blared, and a light flashed red.

Whatever it was was behind a bend at the bottom of the shaft that seemed to be impervious to Madrox's scans.

Stephanie could pick up something foul and unnatural smelling wafting up from the chamber below.

And, as if to punctuate that statement, a long...tendril? It came by so fast...shot up from the tube, wrapped it's way around Elena's ankle, and dragged her down.

Sara would just be able to catch Elena's hands keeping her from tumbling in headfirst.

The force pulling her down was increasing, though.

Elena screamed briefly before instinct took over. She unloaded, attempting to blast the tendril right below where it had grabbed her.

An unearthly growl echoed back up.

"Great... It's not just a vertical shaft, it has a monster at the bottom too..." she mumbles, trying to figure out a way to scale the shaft in a way that'd leave them capable of defending themselves.
