Physical Description: A beefy young man with a tapered reptilian tail and a reptilian head with sharp teeth, forked tongue, and two horns jutting out of the back. He does, oddly enough, still have black hair. He is covered in green scales and his eyes are blue with slitted pupils. When his second skin is enabled, he is pitch black and his eyes are black with red slits and red sclerae.
Personality: Despite his perhaps menacing reptilian appearance, John is a kind, idealistic, often geeky person with a passion for the computer sciences.
Power Explanation:
- Nightvision
- Trauma-Based Adaptation - The ability to adapt new abilities from physical trauma, usually involving injuries from energy exposure. That which does not kill him literally makes him stronger.
- - Superhuman Strength - Base adaption from general physical trauma.
- - Darkforce Armor - He is able to coat his body in a dense black substance that acts as a second skin. This second skin protects against piercing weaponry (including bullets) by reducing the force of the impact (similar to kevlar). Strong sources of light damage this second skin. Gained from exposure to dangerous levels of light. When his second skin is enabled, he is pitch black and his eyes are black with slitted red pupils.
- - Frost Breath - He is able to breath out a cone of sub-zero energy. Gained after being badly burned in combat in the Evilverse.
Non-Mutant Abilities: A talented computer engineer with a solid business acumen.
History: John's father, Kazuhiro Hino, came to America 30 years ago when his employers, Yokoshima Electronics, decided to open a U.S. office. It was there he both met his bride-to-be, one Billie May Gunderson, and eventually used his modest wealth gained from smart investments and family inheritance to start his own successful company, Hino Digital Technologies (usually referred to as HDT). They then had children.
However this son was quite obviously a mutant; his tail, claws, and face a dead giveaway. To add to their misfortune, John was born with a high sensitivity to light (which John has thankfully since outgrown). He grew up tucked away from the world in the family home. He only had his sister, his tutor, and the internet as a refuge from the loneliness.
When he was 14, he and his mother were kidnapped. He was on a trip to the doctor when it happened. Another car struck them and in the confusion they were led into a van and taken. His father was later sent a video of John being tortured by sun lamps burning his skin. It was during the making of a second video that his true ability surfaced. He then broke free and managed to escape. He got help from police, but sadly his mother had already been dead for 24 hours.
His father reluctantly sent him to the Academy of Tomorrow. John would be given better care there than Mr. Hino could provide. After graduation, John enrolled at XU. Since his enrollment, he has joined the X-Men despite the objections of his overprotective father and served the greater good while still pursuing his career goal of carrying on the family business.
Notable changes:
- Father still alive, now named Kazuhiro.
- No connection to Cal's backstory.
- Has not dated Ayami.
- No "mental guard dog" born of "eaten" magic.
