Name: Mercy 'Nightshade' Wilkins
Age: 15
Power: Physical Mutation: Wings - Mercy has black wings that are quite functional, protruding from her back. She can fly with them as competently as most people can walk and run, which is to say that she has not been trained in any kind of aerobatics and is quite often clumsy.
Power: Darkforce Control: Mercy has the ability to create and control Darkforce. At present her main ability is to create tentacles or cords of shadowy force with which to manipulate objects or protect herself. She can also attempt a sort of poor-man's teleportation by opening up a portal to the Darkforce dimension, and hurling herself through it. However, this teleportation is neither accurate nor safe, in fact Mercy has never tried it more than twice, each time ending in serious injury.
Personality: Unlike most high school girls, Mercy isn't shallow and boring. She understands that the world is a terrible place full of serious things, like world hunger, globalization, and The Sisters of Mercy. Consequently she wears a lot of black, and smokes clove cigarettes. It wouldn't do to be a sheep, now would it? That's why she spends time with people who think and dress like herself as much as possible.
Description: Mercy is a little shorter than average, at 5' 4", and of a slim build. She spends a great deal of time on her appearance, usually attempting an 'artfully disheveled' look. As noted in the power section, she has enormous, flight capable wings sprouting from her back, her extended wingspan is greater that her height by half again. Her wings are black feathered, and unlike many winged mutants, Mercy's body is not lighter than a human girl her size. It is very likely she uses some unconscious manipulation of Darkforce in order to fly effectively.
Background: Mercy was a middle-class girl in California when her mutation struck. Rather than growing slowly, her wings simply manifested and became physical the first time she used Darkforce. Mercy's parents pulled her out of school immediately, and went looking for another place to send her. Preferably a place at enough of a distance that they could get used to her new appearance with less immediacy. They had heard disturbing rumors about 'shady practices' at Xavier's Institute, and ironically selected Emma Frost's Academy of Tomorrow for their daughter.
Mercy got on well with the Headmistress, knowing enough to flatter Frost, and having a common ground with her in the importance they both put on appearances. When the Mutant Registration Act hit, she was reluctantly shipped off to England once the Academy realized it would not be able to maintain any kind of exception to the act.
