Power: Onyx is able to transform her body into a "shadow" form. She is able to teleport through shadows in this form and her strength increases significantly. Due to telepathic conditioning, she is more susceptible to psychic suggestion than a non-psychic would normally be.

Description: Onyx is medium height, roughly 5'7". her skin and hair are both solid black. Her eyes are dark grey, but appear normal in her non-powered state. When shifted to shadowed form, her skin acquires a deeper tone, and her eyes become completely black orbs, almost like she was standing in a shadow.

Onyx is friendly and polite, but completely submissive. She will obey to a fault any order given to her by her 'Mistress', or anyone else she's ordered to listen to. She does not shy from confrontation, unless ordered not to fight, as she was trained to not show fear.

Background: For all of her life that Onyx can remember, she was a prisoner in the slave pens of a mutant slave ring. All of her life before that was wiped clean from her mind by the slave ring's telepaths, the better to cover their tracks with. Because of her appearance, it was obvious that she was a mutant of some sort, but lacking any notable useful powers, she was written off as a 'novelty' mutants and was sent to be conditioned as a pleasure slave.

It was some time into her training that her power manifested fully and she gained the ability to shift into her shadow form. As this ability opened up new, more profitable applications for a slave, she was placed in training with other slaves who could make fairly good bodyguards or spies.

Being so young, it was never a difficult matter for the slave ring to break her. It only took them a few years, then, to make a decent slave out of her and send her to the auctions. This is where the first turn of luck in her life came into play. Alongside her on the auction block was a captured agent of the Hellfire Club, whom they'd managed to get onto the auction block despite not being fully trained. The entire group on the auction block was purchased by the White Bishop, who began freeing and finding places for all of the slaves once they were safely out of Madripoor.

Unfortunately, it became readily apparent that Onyx would not be as easy to set into a new life. She was very young, and there were no memories of her family left to use to take her back to wherever she came from, even after extensive psychic investigation. Even more disturbingly, she'd been completely broken in the slave pens, and was completely and utterly alarmed by the idea of her new 'mistress' dismissing her. The only alternative idea that could be reached was to allow her to return with her mistress and place her in the school, hoping that she could find her own identity and the beginnings of whatever she would want her life to be.

She spent a brief period of time at the Xavier Institute going to school before the attack that killed Rebecca Valentine left her alone again. Brokenhearted, Onyx fled back to Madripoor where she managed to find some of the slavers. They graciously took her in providing her with a new Master.

Through a series of unlikely coincidences, Onyx met Will and Sara a couple of years later in London. When they attempted to rescue her from the situation, Sara was roped into a game of poker with Onyx as the prize. Sara won the game, but Onyx’s master attempted to back out of the deal and commanded Onyx to kill the two. Onyx disagreed with his assessment of her ownership and killed him instead, declaring Sara to be her new Mistress.
