Kirk, you suck at the prime directive. Like, holy shit, what? And the resolution to the episode: none. Klingons are teaching the other side increasingly advanced weaponry while Kirk dumps 100 flintlock rifles on the other side and call sit a day. Excellent.

What a twist! That had no relevance to the plot at ALL. And you gotta love those episodes that accomplish the same thing as if they Enterprise had just flown past the planet.

Sometimes, the animated series had wonderful ideas for a plot.

This was not one of those times.

THE STOLEN BRAINWAVE PATTERN

This was one of the goofiest Animated Series episodes I've seen so far as far as animation goes. Zero fucking budget, holy shit. I'll give them minor credit for alien design at least, as usual.

Hoah boy. 1940s-era sterotypical Tribal Africa, here we come.

TNG 1x04: Code of Honor, or DER EHRENKODEX
Image

Cast and crew opinions!

Tracy Torme, writer: embarrassed by what he called a "1940s tribal Africa" view of Africans

Jonathan Frakes, Riker: a "racist piece of shit"; "The worst and most embarrassing and one that even Gene would have been embarrassed by was that horrible racist episode from the first season... Code of Honor, oh my God in heaven!"

Brent Spinder, Data: "just a racist episode. Maybe not intentionally but it felt that way and looked that way. It was the third episode so it was fortuitous that we did our worst that early on and it never got quite that bad again."

Wil Wheaton, Wesley: Points out that it was the director, not the script, which made everyone african-american

Garret Wang, Kim: this episode "stinks"

LeVar Burton, LaForge: Agrees with Garret Wang.

Michael Dorn, Worf: "the worst episode of Star Trek ever filmed", with agreement from every other member of the cast in attendance.

What if... this kid's imaginary friend... was real!

It feels like a trope but maybe it wasn't at the time? I dunno. It also suffered from three kid actors in one episode.
