Neither a borrower...

After the revelations at breakfast, Samantha resolved to find a way to return the book, if only to help her put the previous night behind her and be able to forget about it.

She turned the key in her room door, going to enter.

The door swings open with a slight groan.

She shook her head, refusing to let her nerves from the night before get the better of her as she walked towards the nightstand.

The book is where she left it this morning, as is everything else in the room, including the wolves on the walls.

She shot a dirty look to the snarling one over her bed before turning back for the door, book in hand.

The floor-boards creak a little as she heads out the door.

Shivering briefly, she went to lock up.

One moment the hallway looks perfectly normal. Then she turns to the door and locks it and when she turns back around the hallway feels... different. There's a strange metallic smell in the air again and one of the lights flickers with an audible buzzing.

"...no. No, this isn't happening again..." she mumbled as she started down the hallway for the elevator.

It seems someone called it down to the lobby in the meantime so Sam is forced to wait as it makes it's way up.

Somewhere down the hall a door slams.

She tensed at the slamming sound, gritting her teeth, but forced herself to breathe more slowly, nervously watching the elevator.

Slowly the indicator lights light up. 1...2....3......4..........And finally the doors open.

She finally let out her breath, eagerly going to step in.

And it takes her up two stories to where Nailah's room is. As she steps out the doors close again behind her and the elevator goes down.

She shook her head and straightened her hair after, even though no one was looking, nor was she planning on seeing anyone. She started down the hallway, book tightly gripped.

The elevators rattles a little behind her as she makes her way down the hall, eventually coming to Nailah's door.

She paused at the door, allowing herself a few breaths, a chance to be calm, for whatever reason. Was she lingering? No, best to forget about all of this when she was done. She was never in this room. She'd never be in another woman's room, let alone one that was showering.

Nodding to herself, she bent over to lay the book on the doormat.

And as she puts it down most of the lights in the hallway go out with a loud 'thunk'.

Which, in her state of mind, was precisely enough to startle her into losing her balance and falling back onto her rump.

Just a moment later the door opens, probably more brought on by the fuse blowing (if that's what it was) than Sam falling down, but Nailah looks rather confused nonetheless.

As it was still dark, that sent Samantha scrambling to her feet, trying to get to the end of the hallway.

Where the elevator seemed to have come up again, as they could hear it's doors open.

"What is going on? Who is this?" Nailah squints out into the dark hallway, only very little light coming from... where exactly? Hard to tell, but it's somehow not quite pitch-black, a faint glow hanging in the air.

And at that point, Samantha didn't much care who was in the elevator as she hurried in.

Not like she'd be able to tell, as the elevator was dark as well. And even more so once the doors close, shutting out what little light had been in the hallway.

Whoever was in there with her doesn't say anything or even seem to react much to her bursting in, but she can hear and feel a heavy breathing that barely sounds human.

Her eyes darted about in the dark as she pressed herself against the elevator wall, trying to find the buttons.

She doesn't find them, but the cabin starts going down anyway.

Something big shifts in the darkness and the metallic, wet smell from earlier becomes almost overwhelming.

She cowered against the wall, suddenly trying to make herself very small, gritting her teeth as she choked back a gasp.

Something drips onto her shoulder, soaking her dress and running down her arm as the presence in the cabin leans down over her when suddenly the elevator doors open, letting in light from the hallway.

The cabin is empty, though Sam's shoulder is soaked in warm, sticky blood.

She was nearly hyperventilating by the time that the light came on again.

Then, she blinked. Nothing...

No, not quite nothing, as she stared at her shoulder and arm in revulsion.

Scrabbling back to her feet she hurried for her room.
